Climate Action is Peacebuilding

This month, the Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG was honoured to partner with the Zamfara Youth Initiative for Peace & Development to deliver a Climate Change, Environmental Responsibility & Youth Action session during the Peace Ambassador Induction and Peace Clubs Activation Initiative in Zamfara State.

The engagement brought together Peace Ambassadors, student leaders, and members of Peace Clubs to explore a critical but often overlooked reality: climate change is not only an environmental issue—it is also a peace and development issue.

Together, we discussed:
🌱 The causes and impacts of climate change in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
🌳 How deforestation, desertification, and water scarcity affect livelihoods and community stability.
🤝 The link between environmental degradation, resource competition, and conflict.
💡 Practical youth-led solutions, including tree planting, environmental sanitation, climate awareness campaigns, and sustainable natural resource management.
🚀 Green entrepreneurship and climate-smart opportunities for young people.

Rather than focusing solely on the challenges, the session encouraged participants to see themselves as solution providers capable of driving positive environmental and social change within their campuses and communities.

At CREACC-NG, we believe that empowering young people with knowledge and practical skills is one of the most effective investments we can make toward building resilient, peaceful, and climate-smart communities. When youth understand the connections between environmental sustainability, livelihoods, and peace, they become powerful agents of lasting change.

We sincerely appreciate the Zamfara Youth Initiative for Peace & Development (ZYIPD) for the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative and commend every Peace Ambassador who committed to taking climate action beyond the training room.

As we continue expanding our work in renewable energy, climate resilience, environmental education, and youth empowerment across Nigeria, CREACC-NG welcomes partnerships with governments, foundations, universities, development agencies, and the private sector to scale impactful community-led solutions.

Together, we can empower a generation that protects the environment, promotes peace, and builds a more sustainable future.
