🌱🌊 Seeing Coastal Resilience Through the Eyes of Communities

The EPO–NHA–CREACC-NG Lagos technical mission concluded with an important field engagement involving a visit to the Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals and observation of surrounding fishing communities.

The visit allowed the delegation to observe first-hand the interaction between industrial activity, coastal ecosystems and community livelihoods.

For Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG, this aspect of the mission was particularly important.
Nigeria’s coastal communities depend heavily on marine and natural resources for their livelihoods. At the same time, these communities are increasingly exposed to challenges such as coastal flooding, ecosystem degradation, changing marine conditions and climate-related risks.

Understanding these realities requires more than desk-based assessments.
It requires field engagement, community perspectives, scientific data and direct interaction with stakeholders.

The visit also provided an opportunity to observe approaches to health, safety, social responsibility and environmental sustainability within the industrial environment.
