Industry Engagement: CREACC–EPO–NHA Visit to Dangote Petrochemical Refinery

🏭🌊 Connecting Industrial Development with Coastal Resilience and Community Livelihoods

As part of the Ecological Project Office (EPO) Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), National Hydrographic Agency (Nigeria) and Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG technical mission in Lagos, the delegation engaged with the Health, Safety, Social and Environmental Sustainability Team of Dangote Petroleum & Petrochemicals Refinery.

The engagement focused on the relationship between large-scale industrial development, environmental sustainability and the resilience of communities within surrounding coastal areas.

Discussions covered important issues including:

For Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG, responsible environmental management requires constructive engagement among government institutions, private-sector actors, technical organizations and local communities.

Industrial development and environmental sustainability should not be viewed as competing objectives. With the right systems, data, partnerships and investments, economic development can be aligned with environmental protection, climate resilience and improved community livelihoods.

The visit also provided an opportunity to better understand the practical measures being implemented around health, safety, social responsibility and environmental sustainability within the refinery environment.

We believe that stronger dialogue between industry and environmental institutions can create opportunities for innovative approaches to coastal resilience, environmental management and sustainable development.
