Strengthening Partnerships for Climate Resilience, Blue Economy and Ecological Restoration in Nigeria
The Centre for Renewable Energy and Action on Climate Change CREACC-NG is proud to be at the forefront of building strategic partnerships that translate climate commitments into tangible action.
This week, alongside the Ecological Project Office (EPO), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, we participated in a high-level technical engagement with the leadership of the National Hydrographic Agency Abuja (NHA) to explore innovative solutions for strengthening Nigeria’s climate resilience through science, technology, and institutional collaboration.

The discussions focused on practical pathways to advance:
🌍 Climate resilience and adaptation
🌱 Ecological restoration and nature-based solutions
🌿 Blue carbon and mangrove ecosystem conservation
🌊 Flood risk mapping and early warning systems
⚓ Hydrographic and oceanographic data for sustainable development
💧 River basin and watershed management
♻️ Carbon markets and climate finance
📊 Digital terrain modelling and environmental intelligence
🤝 Multi-sector partnerships for sustainable development
During the meeting, CREACC-NG proposed the establishment of a Climate Change and Oceanography Unit within the National Hydrographic Agency to strengthen the integration of climate science, hydrography and ocean governance. We also discussed opportunities to jointly mobilize climate finance, participate in international climate platforms such as COP31, and develop innovative projects that support Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions #NDCs and the #SDGs.

A key outcome of the engagement was the shared commitment to develop a collaborative framework that will support research, capacity building, blue carbon development, flood forecasting, coastal resilience, and ecosystem restoration across Nigeria.
At CREACC-NG, we believe that solving today’s climate challenges requires more than advocacy it requires strong institutions, evidence-based policies, technical expertise, and partnerships that deliver measurable impact for people and nature.
Together, we can unlock innovative financing, strengthen resilient communities, restore ecosystems, and accelerate the transition to a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
